Ward History

"Let us then continue on in this important work of recording the things we do, the things we say, the things we think, to be in accordance with the instructions of the Lord. For those of you who may not have already started your books of remembrance and your records, we would suggest that this very day you begin to write your records quite fully and completely. We hope that you will do this, our brothers and sisters, for this is what the Lord has commanded."

-- “We Need a Listening Ear,” President Spencer W. Kimball, October 1979 General Conference.

Meet the Ward Historian

Hello! My name is Bowen Loveland. I love stories in all kinds of forms: video games, movies, books, conversations, seniors reminiscing, and the list goes on. With that, I am grateful to have a calling that keeps me involved with the story of the people in this ward.

Here, you can expect profound looks into what makes being in the YSA an incredible experience. Actually, let's just have a good time and enjoy this catalog of what the ward has done and what you can look forward to.

I'd love to hear from you on the other side of the screen. Fill me in on how the year has been for you in the ward Was there something that happened with the ward that inspired you, welcomed you, or entertained you? Has your testimony of the restored gospel grown? Has your conversion to Jesus Christ deepened? How have the YSA been a part of it? I'd love to hear all about it! Maybe it'll end up here too! (If you're comfortable with it.)

I feel okay sharing my email here, so don't spam it:

The Swimming Party

Saturday, July 15, 2023

I, Bowen Loveland, wasn't there myself, so I asked for some highlights from someone on the FHE Commitee. I'll respond to a couple of parts from the report.

It took a lot of work to put together, but they're all glad it worked out.

There were back and belly-flop competitions, and apparently y'all got the lifeguard cracking up. I probably would have been right in line with the others who did it.

From what I hear, the slide was a hit. Some of you guys were spinning down it? How does that even work? Dang, that sounds exciting.

There was a group playing basketball (picture 2). That was the only activity to last through the duration of the party. Now that's sticking with it!

Mostly, people were just hanging out, eating pizza (look at all that pizza!), and swimming. Sounds like a nice and chill activity.

A Twist on Activities

FHE - June 19, 2023

We gathered for shaving cream-based games at the Stake Center. The shaving cream was certainly messy as we started with Pictionary, but it was manageable. I stepped away to donate some supplies to the ward, and I was away for some time. On my return, a corner of the gym was taken up by bright colors on the floor and on the players. Shaving Cream Twister had left quite the mark, and everyone was laughing about the mess.

The game had ended, and we didn't start cleaning right away. I totally get why: this was a bigger mess than any of us had likely seen at a YSA/church event. Once we started moving, the excitement of the game had shifted into a drive to clean. It was also fun, maybe just as much as the game had been. People were mopping, carrying paper towels around, wiping and cleaning all surfaces. It was awesome to watch the ward come together with such energy to clean the gym.

The combined efforts of this ward turned a colorful mess into shining clarity. Thank you all for making this two-part activity a memorable night.

FHE - 11/21/22: Thanksgiving Dinner

Turkey, potatoes smothered in gravy, wonderful desserts, and good company, what else can be said? It was a good time to be with friends, watch a fun pumpkin pie eating contest, and write messages of good will. (More details and polishing to come)
